Clark Kerr
The Multiversity is a term coined by Clark Kerr (1911-2003), a former Chancellor of the University of California Berkeley and President of the University of California system. Kerr was not only an academic leader, but also a scholar of higher education. The Multiversity is an attempt to describe the modern university – an institution that has many expectations imposed upon it; to educate citizens, to train a workforce, to invigorate the economy and to serve the public at large.
This blog is a forum to consider and discuss topics within the multiversity… and beyond. It seeks to debate the multiple pressures that are imposed upon modern post-secondary institutions. While the primary concern is higher education, higher ed does not exist in a test tube. It is influenced by society and also influences society. Therefore, “… the beyond” will also be featured here.
This is, most importantly, a forum for discussion. Feel free to disagree, dispute or disavow any assertions made. Use the comments section to talk back!
